Reinforcements

Sometimes in our ministry we may feel very isolated, we may feel lacking in ideas or support or we may just feel the need to have more helpers and practical help on a week by week basis – we may feel the need to call in reinforcements.

There are two ways we can help with this – firstly, sometimes we can help practically by coming along ourselves to provide support, providing a member of the team to support or by putting you in touch with someone nearby who may be able to help. Secondly we can reinforce all your work through prayer.

We ask that you use this prayer regularly;

God our Father, we lift before you the children and young people of this Diocese. Guide them to know your ways, bring them to a fuller knowledge of your love and goodness, help them to find their worth in you and hold their faith in you. Your Son told his disciples to become like little children. Lead us to reach out to children and young people, teach us to teach them and help them to flourish in life, following the example of the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We held a prayer breakfast yesterday for all those involved in ministry with children and young people in this Diocese where we prayed aloud, in silence and in particular for many intentions which have been offered since I began in post in January. We also prayed for each group in our Diocese.

Try using this creative prayer to help your congregation pray about ministry with children and young people as well as the children and young people themselves

At the Font.
We celebrate with joy when children and young people find faith in you and come to be part of your family through baptism. Name those children and young people and families whose hearts you wish to see turned to the Lord, add their names to the bunting and hang it around the font.

At the Lectern
We try each day, week, month or whenever we meet with children and young people to find new ways to teach and preach your word to them. We ourselves need to hear your word afresh. Take what you need in a word of encouragement for you in your ministry.

At the Door
Lord we know that there is much that often keeps people from coming through the doors of our churches. Cut through the string and ask God to break down barriers for those children, young people and families we know who we are praying might come to church or to our group.
